What was the role of the Igbo in the Nigerian Civil War (Biafra War)?

The Igbo played a central role in the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), also known as the Biafra War. Following political tensions and ethnic violence, the Igbo-majority southeastern region declared independence as the Republic of Biafra, led by Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu. The war lasted for three years, resulting in massive casualties due to starvation and conflict.

After the war, the Igbo people faced economic marginalization but demonstrated resilience, rebuilding their businesses and communities.
