What is the Igbo language, and how many people speak it?

The Igbo language (Asụsụ Igbo) is a Niger-Congo language spoken by an estimated 45 million people worldwide. It has numerous dialects but is standardized in writing and education. The language is also spoken by Igbo descendants in the diaspora, especially in the U.S., the U.K., and the Caribbean.
